Typical Applications
-Blocking GIC or DC in Transformer Neutrals

Geomagnetic induced currents (GIC) caused by solar disturbances can greatly affect power utility systems.
Resulting DC currents can cause power transformer core saturation, leading to overheating, high operating noise, reduced capacity, insulation degradation, and possible failure. Relay operation due to these disturbances can lead to localized or system-wide outages.

Dairyland manufactures GIC blocking devices that can prevent these problems. Such devices can:

  • Block the flow of DC current, while conducting AC current
  • Have AC fault current ratings sized to the available fault current
  • Provide solid neutral grounding for the AC system
  • Switch automatically between conduction and blocking modes
  • Provide greater system reliability
