RCS
(Reverse Current Switch)

Stray DC currents can affect pipeline corrosion rates and cathodic
protection systems. Where rail systems or other large DC sources
exist, pipelines can pick up current at defects in the coating,
and conduct this to discharge points nearest the rail substation
or other source. These discharge points, which cause accelerated
corrosion, can be addressed through the use of a Reverse Current
Switch to conduct the current from pipe to grounding system,
but avoiding current pick-up at this point. This one-way conduction
device can assist pipeline operators in urban settings who would
otherwise contend with large voltage swings (positive and negative)
and uncontrolled current discharge and pick-up.
Features and Characteristics:
- Uni-directional conduction via solid-state electronics
- High current discharge capability
- Over-voltage protection for reverse bias
- Shunt for measurement of DC current flow
